Geneva: The United Nations has suspended Russia's membership in the Human Rights Council by a majority vote.
According to international media, the UN General Assembly has passed a resolution suspending Russia from the UN Human Rights Council.
For the resolution, 93 countries voted in favor of suspending Russia, while 24 countries voted against and 58 abstained.
The UN General Assembly needed a two-thirds majority vote to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council.
It should be noted that in 2011 the United Nations suspended Libya from the Human Rights Council in response to the violent crackdown on anti-Gaddafi protesters, after which Russia has now become the second country to be suspended from the Human Rights Council.
