Violent protests against singer's arrest in Spain

Protests continue in Spain, and in some places protests have turned violent, with dozens arrested.

Pablo Hassel, a 33-year-old singer, has been accused of supporting Catalonia's separatists by calling the Spanish king a tyrant.

The singer was sentenced to nine months in prison for insulting the king and inciting violence, after which she was arrested on Tuesday.

Protests are taking place mostly in the Catalan capital, Barcelona,   and in northeastern Spain, where Pablo Hessel belongs.

Protesters set fire to roads, blocked traffic and looted in some areas.

In clashes with protesters throwing stones and police have arrested numerous demonstrators using batons.

In response to the public outcry, the central government has acknowledged its mistake in cracking down on protesters, signaling a easing of sanctions.
